The Regular Monthly Board Meeting for July 2011 was called to order by Vice President Ron Schneider.

Members present were: B. Aamot, G. Christianson, D. Gunderson, V. Sechler, B. Schemel, R. Stehn, and T. Frazee.

Members which called saying they would not be present: B. Carlson, J. Duininck, T. Leiser.

Member absent: T. Lange. 

Motion by D. Gunderson, second by B. Aamot to approve the agenda with the addition of number 7.7 being Zequanox . Motion carried.

Motion to approve minutes of 25 June 2011 meeting by B. Schemel, second by G. Christianson. Minutes of meeting were approved as mailed out. 

D. Gunderson presented the Financial Statement for July 2011. 

Second by B. Schemel to approve the financial report . Motion carried. 

D. Gunderson pointed out to the Board the total cost treatment for Eurasian Water Milfoil for 2011. As of this report, we have spent over $18,000.00 for treatment. The chemical for fall treatment has been purchased, paid for but will show up on the August Financial Report . It was suggested that we increase the Dues for 2012 year to assist in the treatment of Milfoil . A committee of D. Gunderson and T. Frazee

Will report to the Board at the September meeting of suggestions for such.



Vice Chairperson R. Schneider received a thank you to the Board of Directors of the GLPOA for their donation of $1,000.00 for the 4th of July Fireworks over Green Lake. The entire Board agreed that it was an outstanding presentation for all lake people to see.

T. Frazee presented a taxing report from the Kandiyohi County Assessor's office showing the 2011 Kandiyohi County Lake Base Rates . Green Lake for 2011, will find the base rate being $5,500 per lake foot which will be a decrease of $200/foot . This information will be provided in the September BREEZE.

T. Frazee offered two letters which he had written to Governor Mark Dayton and Commissioner Tom Landwehr regarding the closing of Boat Access of lakes which are infested with Zebra Mussels.



Caterpillar Fund: T. Frazee reported the treatment for May was completed. Contact has been made with TeryJon Aviation that we will treat for caterpillar worms in 2012 . We have asked that treatment be stopped from 7:30 a. m. to 8:15 a.m. when students are waiting for the school bus . This will take place beginning with 2012 year.

Education/Web Page: The Web page has been "cleaned up" with the counters turned back to zero so the Board will get an accurate count for the summer of 2011.

Lake Management: Chairperson B. Schemel reported the first treatment was completed for Eurasian Water Milfoil prior to the State of Minnesota shutting down. We have received a permit for treatment; second treatment will be late September or early October . We have purchased the chemical for this fall treatment . R. Sowder assisted the Chairperson for the two days of treatment . All reported points were treated.

Sewer and Water: No report

Variance/Taxation: No report.



B. Schemel asked the Board for permission for up to $200.00 to lease two satellite trackers to be connected to the GPS, which is donated by G. Christianson. With this new equipment, we will be able to find, record all treatment with one inch of the stated milfoil in Green Lake. This program is known as REAL TIME KINETIC . MOTION BY R. STEHN, SECOND BY B. AAMOT for B. Schemel to lease the two satellite trackers for Green Lake. Motion carried.



Motion by B. Schemel, second by V. Sechler to allocate $250.00 for a new printer for the Executive Secretary as suggested by D. Gunderson . Motion carried.

The 2012 Directory was discussed as to the format regarding any changes . The Board wishes to keep the Directory for 2012 as has been in the past years, listing residents on Green Lake along with their address. We will not list home address, lake telephone numbers or email address. Green Lake residents are asked to submit photographs for the front cover of the 2012 Directory . The Directory Cover will not show any individuals, who are identified, but wish for the cover to be of lake activity, wildlife, sunsets, etc . V. Sechler and T. Lieser will select the cover design . Individuals who wish to submit photographs should write their name, address on the back of the picture, and submit the same to Green Lake Property Owners Association, P. O. Box 362, Spicer, Minnesota 56288.

Discussion was held about the Sailing Regatta as to power washing their boats/trailers . They were not interested in having their sail boats/trailers power washed.

Discussion was held about the Bass Fishing Tournament scheduled for Green Lake on 30 July 2011 . The Board has been in contact with the Director of the Tournament but they are not interested in participation.

Discussion was held regarding fund raising for 2012 for the treatment of Eurasian Water Milfoil . At the present Board Meeting, 22 % of the Green Lake residents have contributed to fight the A.I.S. If the residents of Green Lake wish for us to continue to treat, we will need to find additional monies. Discussion was held of holding an Auction in the spring of 2012 to raise funds, discussion was held about working with the Spicer Beautification Committee for a fund raiser. Suggestion was to auction either Turtles or Loons as the Spicer Committee did in 2010 with their fish . The Board appointed D. Gunderson and T. Frazee to meet with the Spicer Beautification Committee to work together for 2012.

Motion by R. Stehn, seconded by B. Aamot to donate $500.00 to the Spicer Winter Fest for Fireworks. Motion carried.

T. Frazee presented information to the Green Lake Property Owners Association Board of Directors that the Minnesota Waters Board has stated the DON'T MOVE A MUSSEL program will be their number one program for this year . The Board was notified that a new chemical, known as ZEQUANOX, which is a green solution to control destructive Mussels . Dr. Dan Mallory attended a local lake meeting to demonstrate his new chemical, Dr. Mallory also traveled to Lake Minnetonka to study their lake . A committee has been put together of which Green Lake, even though we do not have Zebra Mussels, has been invited to be a partner along with Minnesota Waters, Douglas County, and Lake Minnetonka.

Minnesota Waters has submitted a grant to the Lessard-Sams funding to the tune of $2.4 million dollars for a statewide approach to just this topic - Zequanox and the next steps . It was suggested in the proposal that lakes such as Green Lake and Minnetonka may be a part of the funded program . T. Frazee has been invited to be a representative within this committee.

The GLPOA Board will not meet in August nor will there be a newsletter for the month.
